What to bring:

      – Pencils and Paper (Erasers are a Great Idea too!)

      – Basic Calculator (No Scientific Functions Necessary)

      – Bottle of Water

      – Optional Study Book (See Below)

Book Recommendations:  (Not Necessary but a Big Help)

      – I will be using the ARRL class format, so the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual, 3rd Edition is good to follow along

Available at the ARRL Website for about $30

      – Another Excellent Book for study is the Gordon West Technician Maunal, W5YI

Other Information:

      – This class will cover a vast amount of the information necessary to earn your license,

but you will have to spend a lot of study time out of class.

      – Snacks and Coffee will be provided.

      – Testing will be held after the final class on February 3.

      – The class is free, but the exam costs $15.

      – There are many free resources on the web including more practice tests than you can count.

Just search some out and start studying and learning.

      – I highly recommend as a fantastic paid site if you want some extra help.

Beginner Radio Kits

      – A limited number of BCARC Starter Kits will be available at the testing session

A BCARC Starter Kit Includes the Following:

                  – Baofeng UV-5R Radio

                  – Tuned J-Pole antenna for 2 Meter VHF Communication

                  – 50 Feet of Coaxial Cable with Connectors Attached

                  – This Kit Provides everything you need to get on the Air when your Call Sign Appears in the FCC Database

You just need to mount it.  BCARC will provide recommendations for that process as well.

                  – You can get this kit with a $80 donation to BCARC, with a discounted donation for BCARC members.

Buying each of the kit contents separately can cost you about $150
