April 12, 2025 Fox Hunt

On this date after the regularly scheduled club meeting, we worked on a Fox Hunt. This event has the leader hide a radio somewhere within a 3 mile radius of the starting point and club members use directional antennas from multiple locations try to find the fox.

Starting just outside of El Nuevo Mexico restaurant we took readings to determine our first fix.
Mike, Michael and Trent brought home made tape measure antennas.
One radio used was the Yaesu FT-60 handy talkie.
We met at Buckies to measure our second fix. Here is Michael getting one.
For members using paper maps, a protractor is used to plot each measured direction to hopefully get a line crossed with the first fix and hoping that that cross is where the fox is.
This time the FOX (the camo box in Mike’s hands) was hiding in Bob Bryant park in the tree shown behind Mike.
This is the crew that made it to the end of the hunt.

Our thanks to Mike Temple for setting up and tutoring us through the Fox Hunt. I sure enjoyed learning the process!!!
